Archos has today announced a new Android tablet that, while designed for children, could be enough to satisfy many adults.  It’s called the the Arnova Child Pad and it’s an Android 4.0 tablet with a very attractive $129 price point.  Loaded with Alvin & The Chipmunks apps and wallpapers, the 7-inch device comes with a number of services and applications that are both educational and fun.

The hardware here is actually quite impressive for the money and include a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD expansion, and a front-facing camera. Toss in WiFi connectivity, micro-USB, support for 1080p video playback and you’ve got a decent little tablet.

We love the fact that the Child Pad comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich however we’re somewhat bummed at the lack of Google Play or Amazon Appstore.  Nevertheless, you could do much worse than the censored AppsLib store for new apps and games.  We totally get the rationale behind the decision to not load it with a full-on Google experience and applaud Archos for having the stones to intro this sort of device.  We’ve enjoyed their continued foray into the Android space and think the Child Pad won’t be the only type of tablet designed with children in mind… and is powered by Android.

We suspect that, with a bit of hacking , the Archos Arnova Child Pad might a decent option for adults looking to save a buck or two on a tablet. We saw that the modding community fully embraced the Nook Color and was quick to buy them based on price alone.  On the other hand, we’re good with this thing exactly the way it is and would consider one for our little one.  How about you?
